Spirit of Africa
Helder Vilela
Brazil
His art linked to his culture.
This combination is not so common in the circus. In this act, I highlight the emotions contained and suffered by my ancestors. I make a direct connection between circus art and African culture. The symbols at the beginning of the video (Dwennimmen; Asase Ye Duru and EPA) are a form of artistic expression in order to thrill, instigate and warn that we must portray, recover and remember this ancient culture through art for the purpose of awareness.

Static
Jordie Campbell
USA
With "Static" I wanted to create the sensation of feeling stuck and puzzled, but change the perspective of how we feel about being "stuck" to feeling curious. If you allow yourself to be puzzled, you leave room for yourself to learn. Throughout this last year I've felt all kinds of stuck and puzzled and this project was a way for me to ask questions and invite curiosity and growth, both in my life, my movement, and in my methods of presenting my movement.
The Aerial Piano Vocalist
Autumn Melody Thomas

A virtuoso piano vocalist takes her music to the air.
The Easy Path
Martin Riedel
Germany
In this short movie project, Martin Riedel processes the death of his father caused by a lifetime alcohol addiction.
Riedel uses his art as a circus performer on the Chinese pole and the time being isolated in Norway during C19, to tell a story of regret, loss and grief.
The Swifts
Anni Küpper
Germany & USA
The Swifts is a short juggling film featuring hand-drawn animations.
It was filmed in September 2020 in Portland, Oregon, and is inspired by the migrating Vaux's Swifts. These birds have one of their largest known roosting sites in an old chimney in Portland where thousands of them gather around sunset and create stunning formations in the sky.
Thinking Time
Mary Piggin
New Zealand
During 2020’s Covid-19 lockdowns, HighJinx Youth Company collected stories from primary school children and held weekly 1on1 Zoom conversations with residents of a retirement village to connect and collect experiences NZers were having in lockdown. Thinking Time was created and filmed at home by Mary Piggin (18) with her phone and a projector she owned. The film was created in response to words shared by young and old NZers, exploring ideas of loneliness, connection, technology and self.
